His theory of evolution profoundly changed the way humankind views its place in the world. Yet, despite its overwhelming acceptance by most of the scientific community, surveys constantly indicate large percentages of the population in Western countries have doubts about it. | Costing over $1 million to produce, this made-for-TV one-hour HD documentary also interviews scientists and scholars in Europe and America, including some of the world's leading Darwin Historians, on both sides of the controversial debate about evolution. While showing fairness and respect to all, including Darwin the man, the film reveals that even Darwin's admirers have many surprising things to say. The documentary also has period drama reenactments that help the view understand some of the influences that shaped Darwin's thinking before he ever departed on his now-famous voyage on HMS Beagle. |
| This event will take place at Ferguson Ave. Baptist Church on September 12 at 6pm beginning with a lecture by Dr. Russell Humphreys entitled "Evidence for a Young Universe." Followed by the Documentary "The Voyage that Shook the World." |

| Dr. Russell Humphreys |
| Dr. Humphreys was born on February 2, 1942 in Wyandotte, Michigan, and was raised in a scientifically aware but non-Christian household. Not surprisingly, Russell himself always had a love for science, and in 1959, he was one of the 40 winners of the Westinghouse National Science Talent Search.

| He received a B.S. degree in physics at Duke University, 1959-1963. After this, he moved to Louisiana State University (LSU) to study postgraduate physics. In 1969, while doing his dissertation research for LSU in the mountains of Colorado, he committed his life to Christ. In 1972, he was awarded a Ph.D. in physics, on cosmic rays and ultrahigh energy necleuon-nucleon interactions, by which time he was a fully committed due to both the biblical and scientific evidence. For the next six years he worked in the High Voltage Laboratory of General Electric Company, designing and inventing equipment and researching high-voltage phenomena. While there, he received a U.S. patent and one of Industrial Research Magazine's IR-100 awards. |
